Jergens Honored as CSU Fenn Co-Op Industry Partner

Nov. 17, 2017 – Jergens Inc. was honored by Cleveland State University’s (CSU) Waskewicz College of Engineering Fenn Co-Op Program as an industry partner during the college’s Employer and Student Appreciation Night earlier this month. Cleveland State University’s Fenn Co-Op program or Center for Engineering Experiential Learning Office (CEEL) encompasses cooperative education, internships, senior design/capstone as well as many industry collaborative initiatives. CEEL provides a link between the classroom and the workplace for students to learn about her/his area of academic interest through practical experience. Jergens actively participates in recruiting its co-op students through this program and other local colleges and institutions.

Manufacturing education plays a major role at Jergens – not only through its co-op program, but also through a company-financed continued education program offered to its employees and Fast Forward Technology Center for STEM education. Jergens’ Fast Forward Technology Center offers a project-based, hands-on learning alternative to classroom education and was developed in an effort to close the sweeping skills gap in manufacturing and engineering careers today. Fast Forward’s project-based learning can be tailored from middle school learning levels all the way through post secondary curriculums. Accepting the honor from Cleveland State, Jergens Project Manager Jason Bateman believes efforts to propel manufacturing education are critical to growing the industry.

“Currently, the knowledge, skills and abilities gap is widening rapidly. As employers and stewards of our industry, it is in our best interest to support any educational endeavor that is based in practical 'hands-on' experiential learning practices,” Bateman says.

Jergens Receives Ohio MFG Month Proclamation

Nov. 8, 2017 - Last month, Jergens Inc. was recognized by Gov. John Kasich and the State of Ohio as a leader in manufacturing and presented with a proclamation for Manufacturing Month 2017. This proclamation appoints October as an official celebration month for manufacturing as part of an international effort to bring awareness to industry’s economic impact.

Spearheading this initiative, MFG Day is celebrated in early October through various private and public international events. MFG Day was founded by Partner Fabricators and Manufacturers Association and is upheld by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association (FMA), National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), Manufacturing Institute (MI) and National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP).

Jergens took part in the MFG Day celebration this year on Oct. 6 with facility tours, panel discussions and introductions to the company’s Fast Forward Technology Center for STEM education. Jergens hosted over 200 students, educators and local industry leaders during the event.
